How does The Neighbor List work?
The Neighbor List connects homeowners with trusted local service providers through a referral-based network. We operate on a “pay-after-the-job” model, meaning providers only pay a small referral fee after a job is completed and paid. Homeowners get matched with reliable professionals without the bidding wars or spam.
-
What kind of providers are listed on The Neighbor List?
Our network includes a wide range of service providers, from licensed professionals to skilled independents. All providers agree to follow local laws, disclose their credentials, and take full responsibility for their work. We believe in transparency, and homeowners are always informed of a provider’s licensing or insurance status before accepting a referral.
-
What happens if something goes wrong with a job?
While The Neighbor List is not a contractor or employer of service providers, we take referrals seriously. If there’s a concern, both homeowners and providers can contact us. We’ll help mediate, gather feedback, and if necessary, remove providers who violate our trust-based standards.
-
Is there a cost to join The Neighbor List?
Homeowners pay nothing. Service providers only pay a small referral fee after they’ve been paid for a completed job. There are no upfront costs, monthly contracts, or aggressive upsells.
-
Why should I trust The Neighbor List over other platforms?
Because we’re built for people, not profits. Big platforms charge small businesses overpriced fees and flood homeowners with spam and bidding wars. We’re different. The Neighbor List is a referral-based network focused on trust, transparency, and real relationships. Homeowners connect with reliable providers without the noise. Small businesses grow through word-of-mouth—not pay-to-play.

Why should I trust The Neighbor List over other platforms? Cont..
And here’s something else that sets us apart: a portion of every referral fee goes to a local charity each month. We believe in strengthening communities from the ground up, supporting small businesses and giving back to neighbors in need. When you use The Neighbor List, you're part of something bigger.

-
We work with locally based, well-reviewed providers. Many are personally referred. We track every job and only continue with providers who consistently deliver.
-
We follow up with every client after the job is complete. If there’s an issue, we step in to help. We’ll connect with both the homeowner and the service provider to understand what happened and work toward a fair resolution. Our goal is to protect trust on both sides, supporting honest communication, quality work, and accountability without creating unnecessary drama.
-
Yes. If you loved their work, we’ll flag them as your preferred provider for future jobs. After you hire them through our referral, you usually become their direct client. But in case you forget their info or lose touch, we offer a one-year follow-up to help you reconnect with that same provider.
-
Never. We only share your info with the provider you’ve been matched with.
-
No. We are a referral and lead-matching service. You contract directly with the provider. However, we do track performance and remove providers who receive negative feedback.
-
That’s understandable—but many new providers never get visibility. We help quality service pros get noticed, and help you find hidden gems with real accountability.
-
You’re never obligated to work with someone we refer. Let us know and we’ll send another option.
-
Some providers carry insurance, and some do not—depending on the type of service. Certain jobs are not legally required to carry insurance, so we allow qualified providers to participate even if they are uninsured. However, for services that do require insurance by law, we only list providers who have the proper coverage. Let us know your preference and we’ll match accordingly. We support local businesses at various stages of growth while ensuring legal compliance and transparency.
-
Leads are sent via text, email, or direct message, your choice. You'll always receive a confirmation email as a receipt that the lead was sent. Each lead includes the job request, expected timeline, and client details so you know exactly what to expect.
-
No. A portion of our referral revenue is donated to support families in need; you don’t have to contribute anything directly. If you’d like to give more, note it when paying your referral fee and we’ll add it to the donation pool on your behalf. You’ll still be listed as a Community Impact Partner because your work makes the giving possible.
-
We operate on trust and track every referral. If a service provider fails to honor the agreed fee, referrals will be paused until the balance is paid in full. If this occurs three times, the provider will be removed from our network.
-
You only owe a referral fee if the job is booked and completed. If the client cancels, you owe nothing. Let us know so we can follow up and improve our vetting process.
-

-

No. We don’t sell leads to multiple companies. We match clients one-on-one, support providers, and only charge after success.
